Congratulations, you have opened up a business! Now you must deal with all of the responsibilities. Just because you came up with an idea to start a company, bought the building, copyrighted your name, and hired people to work for you doesn't mean your job is done. You now need to get your company out there and get clients. All this is enough to worry about, but now your need your accounts receivable department involved because clients owe you money which is not good.
Responsibilities always pop up just when you think you've taken care of everything. You now have made a name for yourself and it seems that the company is almost running itself. You must keep the thought that the customer is always right because they are the people who keep your business going. But are they right when they don't pay you?
So let me tell you what my business actually does. I create special and customized knives, which I knew was risky because this isn't exactly a necessity that people need, it more of a leisure purchase. I was lucky because people actually loved the idea. Clients started pouring in loving my idea! My regulars consisted of rich people who love to cook, restaurant owners, and chefs. Things were going good because they liked the way I did business, so they started referring me to everyone they knew. My way of advertising was putting ads in magazines and making calls to restaurants and homeowners. The calling idea actually worked because people usually hate solicitors. Now I word of mouth was helping out the business even more! There was just one problem, something wasn't adding up. We were selling all of these knives, but the money wasn't coming in.
This problem was starting to freak me out because my bills started coming in. I actually pay my bills, unlike my clients. That's right! I found out that they weren't paying me, that's why the money wasn't coming in. They claimed to have forgotten to pay their bill or their checks bounced. You own a restaurant, wouldn't you be more responsible?! All I want is my money and to pay my bills and then make more money. My so-called loyal clients were apparently not loyal at all. Maybe they were just experiencing money problems, but regardless, they should have contacted me. Click here to find out how I solved my problem.
My knives were at a very reasonable price; start low to get steady clients and then slowly raise the prices. This method works, but only if you have clients who pay you.
